2005 and 1995: A Retrospective

We just completed our extensive retrospective of the 2005 and 1995 vintages. Here some overall findings.

Over 200 wines re-tasted from the 2005 and 1995 vintage

We re-tasted over 150 wines from the 2005 vintage and over 60 wines from the 1995 vintage, including re-sampling much of the collections of many leading Estates:

Two stunning vintages in their own right

2005 Takeaways:

• Staggering level of quality of the fruity and dessert wines.
• Huge amount of modern day legends in the making, including two perfect wines... of which one is a Spätlese!

• Some astonishingly good dry Riesling, despite the ripeness of the vintage.

1995 Takeaways:

• Stunning almond-infused wines with some exceptional wines at all levels.

• Sweet spot at Spätlese / Auslese level, with some true classics.
